LL Manta Ray 12 ???

Hey all,

I was browsing the net and came accross the Manta Ray 12 by liquidlogic. Does anyone own this boat, and what do you thingk of it. I'm thinking sell my pungo 120 and get this boat as it is more didicated to fishing. So if you have any experience with it please chime in.

Tight lines and paddle well,

Jon

Sorry, I have no experience or know anyone with experience with the manta ray. I have a MK Pro Explorer I will be looking to sell in a few weeks though in case you're interested.

Shoot me your email and I will give you a link to several Manta ray 12 and 14 owners on a forum just for Liquid logic Yaks. I can't email you direct yet, new member, less than four posts, hehe.

Just curious, why are yuo selling your MK Pro Explorer? I have one also and it leaks a lot. Are you having this problem?

No, mine was watertight, at least in the bays. I got the pro to replace my OK Big Game which was just too much kayak for my needs. After getting the Pro, I paddled the Marauder and realized really liked and wanted the extra room it offers and the much quieter hull.

As far as your Pro Explorer leaking, does it happen in the bays where there is essentially no water on the deck, or does it seem to take on water when water comes over the bow or sits on the hatches? Just Curious,
Perry

It happens even on freshwater lakes. I ran a hose over the hatches with little water getting in. I'qm taking it to a Malibu dealer to try to figure out. thanks, ****,

If that is the case, I would look really good at the scuppers then. That area seems to cause more problems for anglers than others. If you run a finger down the scupper and you feel a very pronounced ridge, that's one of the weak spots where scuppers can leak.

If you want to see if they leak, you can buy a small jar of plumbers putty and make a ball out of some to plug one end of the scupper. Then fill it with water and see if you get water inside the kayak from a leak. Just a thought,
Perry

I had a similar problem with my OK Drifter. It was always real wet in the hull after every paddle while my Dad’s Drifter was fairly dry. I filled the hull with a garden hose and found a whole series of small pinholes in the hull. It looked like a sprinkler. I took it back to the dealer and they replaced it no problem.

Incredible gave good advice! Take it out on the patio on a nice day! Make sure the cement is dry. You don't need to fill it completely. About three to four inches of h2o will usually be sufficient. See where the cement is getting wet, and look above that spot on the kayak. Find the leaks. Some people put the yak a little above the cement, suspending the yak on two sturdy boxes. Mark the leaks with a crayola, or marker. You need a heat gun and a plastic repair (weld!) rod in the same color as your yak. Most manufacturers will send you one. Ocean Kayaks sent mine free! With instructions! Seak the leaks and you're good to go. The number one cause of kayak leaks is the scupper cart! Yaks can't take the leveraged stress these carts inflict on the scuppers when you pull the yak over bumps and sand! Good luck! Piranha

Small repairs are very easy with a simple soldering iron. You may not even need extra plastic. If you do need plastic look inside your yak - you will usually find some place where you can take a shaving or three without hurting anything. Put the tip of the iron on a suspected seam or crack gently and remelt together. If you actually have a hole, feed in a bit of the plastic shavings.

Piranah's suggestion about getting the same color from your same manufacturer is great because different color plastics and plastics from different manufacturers may not work well together. That said, if I was having trouble finding the plastic I would try some regular milk bottle plastic.

You may want to practice on the milk bottle before you go after your Yak!
