Fishing Huntngton Harbor Saturday the 11th
I'm planning on fishing Huntington Harbor this Saturday the 11th and company is welcomed. It will be an afternoon-evening trip and my first launch choice will be the public boat launch at Sunset Aquatic Park, or if that is too busy or not feasible for whatever reason, I'll launch from Countess Street which is a few hundred yards away. I'm planning to launch about 5-6pm and fish until 9pm or so, and I'll be in my Mango Cobra Marauder. If anyone plans to meet me there, please lemme know so if anything changes, I can contact you ASAP.

You should try Trinidad Island, real easy launch. Countess is either real muddy, slick and steep on one side or a little hike and steps on the other.

Chuck,
I'm not planning to have a radio with me, but i'll be in the general area of the Simple Green building or the channel. Hopefully I'll see you there :thumbup It's been waaaaay too long. Perry BTW: At work we have Ice-9 next door to us. Does that ring a bell in the surfing world? |

Re: Fishing Huntngton Harbor Saturday the 11th
Hello Perry,
If you go to Countess, Drive, do you park at the end? I Googled it and it looked like there was parking and access to water there.http://www.allkayakfishing.com/forum...cons/icon5.gif |
Re: Fishing Huntngton Harbor Saturday the 11th
TG,
Yes, I drive to the end and park and launch on the right most of the time. You can also launch on the left side also. The right side has a few foot drop you have to carry or slide your kayak down which can be muddy and slick, and the left side has concrete paths you pull your kayak on but also has a few foot drop to get to the sand to launch. Hope this helps, Perry |
Re: Fishing Huntngton Harbor Saturday the 11th
It does, Thanks!

Perry:
Anywhere to launch without steps or drop-off? I win't take my loaded Hobie down either - way too heavy. Steve |
Re: Fishing Huntngton Harbor Saturday the 11th
Trinidad Island
Sand is up to the concrete 2 in drop |

Launched form the boat ramp. Made my way in a stiff breeze. Paddled around to check out the launch from Countess. Ran across Chuck, who filled me in on some good spots to try. Worked the docks toward Simple Green. Fished the bridge, the edges of the wetlands and back around. beached as the sun was going down.
Caught one spotty, lost a couple and plenty of bites. Thanks for the tips, Chuck! Good times... :thumbup |
Re: Fishing Huntngton Harbor Saturday the 11th
Perry and I waited and looked for wind - decided to go to NPB. Fished Coast Guard and out in anchor area. I think 3 spotties total. Wind layed down flat.
Off water after 9pm. seaslug |
Re: Fishing Huntngton Harbor Saturday the 11th
Launched late from the boat ramp
Drove around looking for everybody Bee-lined it to the bridge, mighta past tarpon guy on the way Caught a couple of spotties, nothing too exciting Played with the new stern and nav lights as well as a newly installed fish finder that is finally reliable |

mg2969,
I saw this Hobie in the middle of the channel movin' like it had a motor on it. I told Chuck, man, those things can really move! At that point, I had to leave and headed back to the ramp. Look forward to running across some more of you guys next time.http://www.allkayakfishing.com/forum...ons/icon14.gif |
Re: Fishing Huntngton Harbor Saturday the 11th
That would probablly be me (yellowish/orange hobie ?)
I stayed out till @930 since the park closed at 1000. Had the new stern and nav lights figured I practice a little in the dark. Gotta get ready for lobster season |

Hank,
Don't worry about it, I think I may be disbarred before you :o. What a snafu...I got there ahead of Steve and was met by an angler named Vinnie. We're talking and Steve shows up across from me. I'm at Countess because the parking lots at the Sunset facility is partially closed because the boats that were in dry storage are now in the parking lot and I couldn't see any signs saying where the new guest parking is. I got a parking ticket in Long Beach last month and don't want another one, those things are $$. I go meet him and we're looking at the conditions and waiting to see who else shows up. We're talking and waiting and wait a bit more and we don't see any else show up by the boat launch or over at Countess. I grab my cell to call you and Fishdog to see what's up and I realize when I had my cell phone replaced, the phone book didn't have all the numbers in it. In retrospect, I should have made a list of cell numbers or just fished Newport from the start like I originally planned because you can usually duck behind the moored boats and you're not so exposed to the wind. We didn't think anyone else was going to show so we went down to Newport. We got on the water about 7pm and had about 45 minutes of decent fishing before the tide slacked up and the bite slowed wayyy down. Steve got a few nice bass and I got one nice one. Perry |
Re: Fishing Huntngton Harbor Saturday the 11th
Perry,
Sometimes the late afternoon/early evening conditions swing in the wrong direction. I can atest to that. Glad to see you made it out to more favorable water and fishing conditions. Thanks for the report. I received your message today after returning from work and I'll pm the info ASAP. :thumbup Hank |
Re: Fishing Huntngton Harbor Saturday the 11th
Perry sorry I missed you guy's. I met Tarpon Guy on the water and we fished in the lee of the wind next to the gas dock. the tide and wind were just ripping. we took 1 lap around the bay with no love and came back to the gas dock. I wound up with 4 nice spotties and a couple of dink sandies. all my fish were caught from the gas dock to about 50 yards south. I was using 4 in. swim bates in x-mas tree and smelt patterns. I stayed out tell 9.00 pm then hit it home. good fishing with you T.G. see ya next time. Chuck A.K.A Fish dog:brews :brews
