Should pfds have leg straps?

Replies to my vest-over-pfd post included a number of comments, here and on other forums, to the effect that our pfds without deployed leg straps may not do much good if we are unconscious in the water.

I have never even seen a pfd with leg straps.

Thoughts and comments?

No thoughts come to mind. Actually, I dunno about the leg straps, but we usually use a type lll PFD, but you may want to read up on the type l PFD's on the market. They are for different conditions and scenarios.

I don't have any blazing PFD photos, but I do have one of where a SAM hit an Airbus cargo plane over Baghdad. http://aviation-safety.net/photos/di...0&vnr=3&kind=C I found while looking up PFD's. Whats up with that? Someone think DHL is doing bombing runs?

I believe that our pfds are designed to maintain your head outta the water with your legs acting as a keel, so to speak! I think leg staps could be dangerous, particularly if you had to get outta your pfd in a hurry and swim for shore, or climb a rocky cliff, etc. etc!
