Hobie Drive Noise?

Question: Do the Hobie Mirage Drive fins hit against the yak(Revo) on each full forward pedal stroke? Result is a drumbeat when pedaling fast. Sort of like on a Roman trireme in the movie Ben Hur.

I`ve had an Outback for about 3 years, same drive. You don`t need to fully extend the pedal travel to get the best speed. You`ll go faster and be less fatigued if you shorten the pedal stroke so the fins do not hit the bottom of the hull.

Sounds like maybe there is some slack in the chains possibly...or something of that nature. I know what you're talking about, my really old drive does the same thing. In mine it's simply parts in need of a 'tune up'...I'd take it down to your local kayak and see if they can solve the problem with some tightening, etc.

Al2fish is right though, short, more efficient strokes is the way to go. I like to do about a 2/3 stroke with one side before starting the other side up.

Maybe you should adjust the peddle forward one incrument, It's possible it's too close to you and when you get a full stroke you're hitting the hull. Moving the peddles forward one notch may make the difference.

I agree, you want fluid motion, you do not want to bottom out with each stroke.
