mission bay 8/9/07

Hey all,

I did the MB thing again yesterday. Well after launching and getting some very large live bait (6-8" dines) I started out in my normal areas for nada. I'm guessing the live baits were just to big. So I actually started to work my plastics. I was using 3" big hammers and swim fishes. When I got to the middle between the 2 bridges it was wide open on the spotties. Now by this time I had given up on the live bait. Again it was clear red flake and xmas tree big hammers. The crazy thing is I carolina rigged my 2nd pole with a 5" zoom worm. I dragged this while I worked the BH's on the other and I caught almost as many on the carolina rig.

Total for the day,
15 spotties 4 over 2 lbs.
2 short white sea bass.
1 short halibut.

Nice day for 6 hrs on the water

Tight lines and paddle well,

Jon

Jon,
As always, Thanks for the report :thumbup The colors you use are a couple of my favorites for bass these days. Another one that seems to work real good for me is "trout". Don't know when the last time a spottie saw a trout, but they'll mow it down when they're in the mood. Some guys do pretty well also using a drop shot set-up on their dead stick also. If you want to try something different, you could try a Gulp Shrimp in New Penny or Nuclear Chicken on a drop shot rig. Robert showed me how to use them in San Diego Bays and they work very, very well to say the least. Some other anglers use crayfish imitations on them and do well that route also. Just a thought,
Perry

Perry,

Thanks for the info. I have thought of trying different things but didn,t know where to start. I still haven't tried san diego bay but maybe soon.
