Alamitos Bay

Hi Guys
I headed down to Alamitos Bay this morning. Its the fist time I've been out since July. I launched around 5:45. The water was like glass and the red glow of sunrise in the distance. Awesome to say the least.
I hit my usual spots without any luck, so I headed back in around 9:30.
I unloaded the rods and stuff and spent about 30 to 45 minutes practicing moving about the kayak, trying different sitting positions, accessing the hatches, etc...
I feel much more comfortable, getting a feel for the tipping points of the kayak again.

Re: Alamitos Bay

Steve,
Glad to see 'ya around, and THANKS for the report. I also got out with a freind and his son for a few hours tossing grubs from shore in OC and didn't raise too much either. It sure was nice out there today though...beautiful day.

I think you have the right idea about gettig used to being on the kayak again after not being on it for awhile. The more comfortable you are with it I think so much the better. Have you tried to re-enter it from the water yet? Just curious. Hope to fish with you again soon,
Perry

Hi Perry
Thanks for reminding me. No, I haven't tried a re entry yet. I have a Tarpon 160 (old style). It has always felt a little tippy, so I thought I would try to see what I could get away with.
It sure was nice to get out, what a beautiful day.
Southern Califronia in February ya gotta love it.
Hope to see you on the water.
Steve

that tarpon will feel lively however its not that easy to tip. i straddle it or sit side saddle and its just fine.

You're right
I was amazed at how far you have to lean to get it to tip over. Sitting sideways always felt weird to me, but after practice I feel much more comfortable.
