Piranha is on a distinguished road
Default Sunday Dana Halibut Double!

Yakass and I launched at around 6.15 this morning. We trolled to the bait barge uneventfully. At Doheny, Andy was the go to guy, while I was basically soaking sardines! He was getting small WSB, Shovelnose, and sand bass. Around 10 something my patience wore out and I decided to fish in the harbor area. I also made some strategic changes to my presentation. I was quickly rewarded with a fat 28" halibut. I also got a plump spotty! Andy got a nice spotty also, which he gifted me! Thanks Andy. We ran outta live bait and I went for a refill. On the trip to the bait barge, Quietman and his children came by on Bender, and he graciously took a few pics of my fish. John, I'm having problems getting the pics I took outta my small camera. Could you post one of yours in this thread, or email it to me. Thanks. I went back and joined Andy. He soon had to leave. Shortly after he left I got a 27" butt, almost a clone of the first one. I owe Andy a halibut, but he's holding a rain check since he was busy elsewhere today! JaxYak stopped by, we chatted, he saw the fish. He's enjoying his whopper WSB he just got at La Jolla! When I ran outta the second tank of bait, I didn't have any more money so I headed for the barn. I had caught lotsa shorts. And I lost a few more that coulda been legals. Andy lost a few whoppers today in cluding one big battle at Doheny. As soon as I can get the pics out, I'll post. Just finished beer battered hali filets. Yum Yum! Tomorrow's lunch will be the same. Here's an easy recipe for Bisquick beer batter!

Easy Beer Batter

1 cup baking mix (like Bisquick)
½ teaspoon salt
1 egg, beaten
½ cup beer

oil for frying

Combine baking mix, salt and egg. Slowly add the beer and stir until blended. Coat foods thoroughly with the batter and deep fry until golden brown.

Tips:

It's best to use prawn-size or fritter-size foods, or a little smaller.
Avoid frying watery foods, like mushrooms in the batter; it just doesn't work well.
Cauliflower and zucchini rounds are very good. So are shrimp, scallops, chicken, hot dog bites, etc.
