Question Kayak ?

Just got the itch to get into fishing from a kayak. I am about 5'9" 185 lb.
Would mainly fish for smallmouth and walleye in MN/WI area. I would like a
kayak that could handle medium to larger sized lakes as well as shallow rocky rivers.
Been doing some research on the Wilderness Tarpon series and Malibu kayaks.
Sounds like a rudder would be a plus for the lakes , Could a rudder be easily removed for shallower rivers ??
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Mike

Thumbs up Re: Kayak ?

Tarpon's are great kayaks, they are one of the most familiar kayaks on the water here in VA. Most Rudder systems have a handle that you can pull to raise and fold it over the top of the kayak, and so removing it from the water for more shallow water. Try it without the rudder, it may be an unnecessary accessory. I've never had any problems without one. GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATS!!!
