Default To hobie or not to hobie

I searched and looked in the new guy forum but couldn't find anything.

I have fished for all my life but in lakes, I'm moving to Okinawa and looking at getting a kayak for fishing. The Hobies impress the hell out of me but so do a lot of other brands. I'm looking for minimum 12' I'm just not sure with ocean waves and currents if just a paddle is going to be enough especially if I have a fish on.

Hoping some of y'all can give me some advice on a first kayak. The price of a Hobie isn't driving me away it is just that I like to have what I need as a minimum but also adhere to the better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it mentality.

Thanks

If I had the extra money I would go with Hobie. I went with Ocean Kayak Big Game 2 which is a great kayak but wish I had the pedal drive.

Go with the Hobie. Been using non-pedal and hobie pedal kayaks for years. If you are cautious in shallow water and can avoid bending the mirage drive, then you'll be fine. It's nice to have your hands free and be able to move as quick as a regular kayak. https://www.paddlemarco.com

Just out of curiosity, did you go with the Hobie or not? I'm curious about the latest Outback. Seems like Hobie's trying to corner the category.
