Default S.D. Bay 5/6

Jackie and I fished Tidelands this morning. Got on the water just before 7 the conditions were great, the wind had died down and the water was warm but was a green color. We started the day giving the channel a shot. Not much of a drift or bite so we made our way to the bridge. Not much going on until I got just on the south side of the bridge my swimbait got picked up and had a little tug-of-war going on and all of a sudden whatever it was came unbuttoned. When the swimbait got near the surface whatever it was had stripped the plastic off the leadhead and it was just dangling half way down the hook. Then out of the depths comes a big, way over legal Hali just inches behind the discombobulated swimbait. After a gratuitous Holly Sh@&$! I tried to snag the flattie as it was slowly returning to the depths, no such luck.

Paddled over to Jackie to let her know of my close encounter and see what was going on with her. She’s switched over to chartreuse Big Hammer and was picking away at them. As we drifted towards the amphib base she got slammed by something with some shoulders that started taking her for a ride. Mean while, I’m playing around with a swimbait and I get a call on the walkie-talkie that she’s still fighting the fish, it’s taking all her line, and she’s on her way to Chula Vista! I started paddling south in case she needs an assist when the time comes but got the call whatever it was broke the line.

We meet up again in the flats just off the amphib base and Jackie got her first convina.

A little later the wind picked up with a vengeance and we high tailed to the barn. Off the water about 1.

Bummer on losing those big fish.

Nice corvina, I get a few of those in HH and they pull pretty hard for their size.
