Default Cat - Solo Trip -1/3

What's the deal, you get a new boat and can't find anyone to join you???

Anyways, went solo to Cat today and met Craig, who was also solo on his boat, at the island for a fairly slow pick on the checkered kine!

On the positive, it was very nice on the backside of Cat today.

Managed a few on the large plastics and swimbaits, plus a few on the crankbait.

This was my first fish of 2007 and went 4.5 on the digi scale :

Craig got one around 5+, not sure if he has any photos.

Craig fishing around some mysto secret spot ...

Flat seas and 35'ish mph all the way back home.

All-in-all a pretty nice day of fishing in January!!!

Ed

Ed,
DOH! Would have loved to join you today, but my boss doesn't understand my need to miss days during the week when the fishing is good or I have a good opportunity to hit the water Oh well, if he was an angler he would understand things like this,LOL.

Glad you had a good trip, nice bass and congrats on a good start in 2007. I should get out next week on the boat or tube if I'm lucky. Talk to you soon,
Perry

Perry,

Too bad you couldn't make the trip! Looks like yesterday was the day as today's NOAA forecast has a GALE warning up already.

Had a bunch of big bass come out of the kelp and hammer the big 9" jerkbaits yesterday, lost one that was pushing 6-7lbs.

Who says you can't catch bass on plastics in Janaury...

Ed,

All I can say is Wow! Nice fish! Your a lucky guy to get out in perfect conditions in the middle of winter!

I have been reading reports of yellows still at the Island, do you target them?

Take it easy!

Aaron

Same for me - I can get out most days during the week - Tuesdays can be less available.

Email me.

Thanks guys, I'll keep you in mind.

I'm pretty busy with work thru the end of this month but hopefully the weather stays decent and time frees up a bit into February.

Jim, what kind of boat do you have and what is the range?

I have a 30ft 1966 Californian Express cruiser with a 2 scoop bait tank and rod holders around on the rails. She is powered with twin 350 chevys with aprox 140 miles range.

Nice, sounds like we could load my boat on the front deck, anchor your boat for home base and work the island on mine
