Default Cherry Beach 2/3/07

Made a few calls to see if anyone was interested in making a nice little launch over at Cherry Beach in Long Beach. No takers, so I headed down myself. This is a nice little beach with ample parking and about 30 ft of sand to maneuver. It was lake flat when I arrived at about 7am. Here is a picture of the sand to maneuver looking over toward Island White.

Once offloaded, I rigged up my favorite harbor baits, Kreepy Krawlers.

From there it is about a mile or so paddle over to Island White. This is one of many little oil islands off of the Long Beach area.

I worked inside the boat dock area for about a dozen sandies in about two hours. Nothing big all about 10-12 inches.

After working the rock walls for a few more sandies, I headed back toward the beach for some flattie drifts. No flatties to be had, but picked up a few more sandies in really tight.
On the way in I paddled through a pod of porpoise and took this shot looking from near Island White over towards the Queen Mary.

It was a beautiful morning, but the breeze was really starting to pick up and I left the water by about 11am, which was just about when my meter was going to run out.
I did get a chance to meet Blair out in the parking lot. Nice to meet you Blair.

Sounds like a good outing. Thanks for the report and pics. I've been trying to get back in the water myself. Soon I'm sure.

Davey,
Thanks for the report bud. I wanted to make the trip with you, but dared not . I'm glad to see the creature baits are working good around the islands, they have been doing pretty well on the bass for myself also. Last time I used a 5" Mogambo (talk about retro) which was working pretty good for myself. The islands are one place I have always wanted to hit that area at night with another yakker or two for safety. Think you may be interested?

I may be interested next weekend Perry. Let me know if something comes up. Maybe we should drop some hoops.

I'd be up for a night launch. Lets try to get something together. This would be a great place for a night launch when the grunion start to come through. So flat and calm but we could easily work the surf from the outside.
Have you ever seen the episode of Inside Sportfishing where they are catching threshers inside the harbor right in tight to the islands? Pretty cool to see those guys pulling on the long tails with the Queen Mary right in the background.
