This is one of the nicer Spotted Bay Bass, or spotties we have in our bays in Southern California. This one weighed in at 2lbs8oz and was taken on a spinnerbait.
NOTE: In our saltwater bays and harbors in Southern California, we often use what could be considered Medium to Heavy weight bass gear for fishing for spotties. Spinnerbaits in white or chartreuse, small curly tail grubs
in various colors from light to dark, and crankbaits work well. Spotties love to hide in the eel grass that is so prevalent in alot of our harbors, and wait and ambush prey as it swims by or above the grass bed. On 10lb gear, they're fun to catch.
