Fish like this Spotted Bay Bass, or "Spottie" are one of the reasons we fish the harbors in Southern California so much. They put up a tremendous fight for their size, and you can catch them on a variety of baits.
This one weighed in at 3lbs14oz and was taken on a spinnerbait.
NOTE: Ed like alot of others who fish for spotted bay bass regulary, employs bass techniques that would also work in freshwater for largemouth bass as well. Using spinnerbaits for search tools, running crankbaits above
the weed beds or bottom structure or fishing plastics rigged weedless along the bottom. Drop shotting is also coming on strong for yet another technique to use fishing for spotties.
