This 15lb. YellowTail was caught in about 80 feet of water just out from Cardiff Reef. Live bait was a sardine which I acquired from two guys in a boat that called me over to fish along side them because they wanted to see what happens when a fish like this hooks up with a kayaker. 20 lb line, 7 ft fenwick, shimano TLD reel and 20 - 30 minutes later this is what you get. Lots of fun photo, taken Fletcher Cove parking lot.
NOTE: These yellowtail are some of the most prized gamefish to be taken from our kayaks. During the right times of the year there is a virtual kayak fleet off LaJolla Shores pursuing these feisty gamefish, and with good reason. They're excellent fishing and eating.
